On a recent Sunday night when we felt like eating Indian food, we tried Mint Leaf Restaurant & Bar near Haymarket. We loved the food and drinks at Mint Leaf and may go back there with a group of friends. Mint Leaf has a large lounge and a dining area. The restaurant felt more like a club ideal for groups than for a couple, although on a Sunday night it felt more like an exclusive date night spot. Chef Rajinder Pandey who was part of the restaurant’s opening team in 2003 is now back at Mint Leaf. The latest A la Carte menu by Chef Pandey indicates innovative appetizers, side dishes, and desserts, and standard main courses. As with many Indian restaurants, there are a lot of vegetarian items on the menu and they are labeled appropriately as well.
We got the spicy vodka martini and the caipirinha. The vodka martini was sweet and spicy with neither flavor dominating the drink – I would get this again. The caipirinha was a standard well made caipirinha.
The bhel puri arrived in a papad cone with the sweet and tangy tamarind-date chutney drizzled across. The plating of the bhel puri was non-traditional, It tasted fine too even though it did not include boiled and dry mashed potatoes.
