Vegetarian, ready-to-eat products from Tasty Bite : Product Review

This post is a product review of a few products of Tasty Bite.  The samples I received for review were from Tasty Bite, however, the product review is 100% mine.

Regular readers of this blog may remember the post that I wrote about The Seed 2013 – a Vegan Immersion in NYC a couple of months ago.  At The Seed, I tried a vegan noodle dish by Tasty Bite and remember liking it a lot.  I was sent some samples by Tasty Bite for review.   Many of Tasty Bite products are vegan, vegetarian, kosher, and gluten-free.  With Tasty Bite, it’s so easy to eat a vegetarian meal that is ready to eat in a couple of minutes with minimal effort. Tasty Bite offers many products that are either Indian entres, Asian noodles, rice or meal-inspirations.  Look at the Tasty Bite website for recipe ideas with their products and the blog (Veggie It) started by the co-founders (Meera and Ashok Vasudevan) of Tasty Bite.   Tasty Bite products are available on their website as well as in grocery stores such as Whole Foods, Kroger, Costco etc.  Look at the Tasty Bite Store Locator for its availability in your area in the US.

For this review, I was sent the Chana Masala, Madras Lentils, Ginger Lentil Rice, Thai Lime Rice, Kung Pao Noodles, Pad Thai Noodles.  My favorites were the Chana Masala and the Madras lentils.

I would stock up on the Chana Masala (gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, and kosher).  for the days that I am too tired to cook or cannot bother about ordering in or eating out. The Chana Masala (cooked chick peas in tomato and onion gravy with Indian spices) from Tasty Bite cannot compete with the long-simmered, slow cooked version that you can either make at home or have at an Indian restaurant, but it’s remarkably close to the authentic version and is ready to eat so quickly (just heat for 90 seconds in a microwave!!

The Madras Lentils (gluten-free, vegetarian, and kosher) tasted like Rajma or (red kidney) beans that you can add to Tacos.  I am not sure why this dish is called Madras lentils – it tasted nothing like lentils or spices in Madras (now called Chennai, where I grew up).  This dish however, will taste great with some plain white rice or as a taco topping.

The Ginger Lentil Rice (vegetarian, vegan, and kosher) tasted like a pulao / pilaf and was very good with the Madras Lentils.    The Thai Lime Rice (or Pilaf) – is vegetarian, vegan, and kosher.  I wish this had more flavor from the lime and the coconut.

The Kung Pao Noodles and Pad Thai Noodles (both vegetarian, vegan, and kosher) will be perfect for a cold / rainy day.  They tasted kind of similar, I thought. On the other hand, these are so easy to make compared to ordering in or making something from scratch!
