Just Salad on 8th St near NYU is a great place to get a salad for lunch / dinner. I was recently invited to sample their latest seasonal salads and smoothies. Just Salad has 11 locations in NYC and in Hong Kong!
Note: Not Just Vegetarian was a guest of Just Salad, but all views expressed in this post are honest and mine.
Just Salad locations not only offer Chef designed salads that taste great (they chop it for you as well), but they also try to be environmentally and socially responsible to the extent possible – they use reclaimed wood and bamboo on their tables and floor, they give you two free essential veggies or a (portion of) cheese every time you take a re-usable bowl (costs $1 at Just Salad) for your meal there, and they sell re-usable bamboo cutlery. I particularly love a page on their website that gives allergen information in everything they use and suggests what is safe for your specific needs. They use all-natural chicken (no hormone, no additives, and no artificial ingredients) from Sanderson Farms. I am now a huge fan of Chef (and Dietician /Restaurateur / Author) Laura Pensiero who has won many awards and who believes that local food in season is the basis for healthy, flavorful eating. I am keen to try her other restaurant Gigi in the Hudson Valley.
I tried their seasonal salads – Tandoori Fire, Fall Superfood, and Autumn Chicken Caesar Salads – and loved them all!! The Detoxer juice with kale, lemon juice, apple, pineapple and a hemp protein boost tasted better than many other green juices that I have tried.
I could not believe that their Tandoori Fire (including the chicken and the dressing) was only 300 calories! The chicken was spicy, but not so hot as to numb your taste buds, the pita chips added a nice crunch, and the salty feta balanced the spiciness of the chicken.
The Fall Superfood salad has many “good for you” ingredients that taste delicious together. The spicy broccoli in this salad offers a good kick and counters the sweet nuttiness of the butternut squash.
The Autumn Chicken Caesar was particularly great with the cranberries and pears. The multi-grain croutons are really mixed croutons made from rye bread, whole wheat bread and regular white bread.
Even though the name is Just Salad, you can get the salads as wraps too! The customer service at Just Salad is great – I saw a customer talking to the Manager (Jason Rotter) about wonderful and cheerful the customer service is!!
I am adding Just Salad to my list of lunch spots that serve tasty salads. If you have been to Just Salad, please tell me, what is your favorite salad there?
