We recently went to Ottolenghi in Islington the biggest deli and restaurant of Yotam Ottolenghi. We loved all vegetarian dishes on the current seasonal menu.
The Islington deli / restaurant takes reservation only for dinner. We got a reservation at 10 PM despite us reserving spots a week ahead. Clearly the restaurant is very popular, despite not being new (has been open since 2002)! The front of the restaurant is styled as a deli / take-away section, while the back of the restaurant has mostly communal seating with a few tables for couples.
Unlike many restaurants, the wine list at Ottolenghi in Islington has 80% of the listed wines available per glass. The wine list includes a section dedicated to Orange wine (yes, not Rose, athough Rose is also available). We stayed with safe whites and reds. More about Orange wine here and here.
All vegetarian dishes were delicious – perfect blends of spices, flavours and textures – as were the two seafood dishes that we tried. If the dishes that we ate are still on the menu / are offered again – please do make sure you get them! The desserts were less impressive in comparison, yet very enjoyable. The carrot cake with cream cheese frosting stood out from the other desserts.
